New Year, New Goals!

I'm so excited to start 2014 out with FullyRaw Kristina's 21 Day Raw Vegan Challenge! My Mom & sister have decided to join me which I am thrilled about. It's always nice to have support from family! As I discussed in this previous post I did not impress myself this year. I actually disappointed myself immensely and I am determined to change that. I am ready to look back this time next year & be PROUD of what I have accomplished.
I have a few goals for 2014, however my main goal is to recommit myself to a vegan (high raw) lifestyle. I will be blogging my way through the 21 Day Raw Vegan Challenge as a way to hold myself accountable. Plus, it will be cool to document the process! My other goals include practicing yoga daily, loosing weight so I can fit into my jeans(!), running a 5K without stopping, and signing up for 5K races. I hope to get in the best shape of my life this year. I also want to spend more time with my family, visit the local co-op weekly, plant an organic garden this spring, and stress less. I believe that taking time to practice yoga every morning will do wonders for me. I also want to set intentions for each and every day. I need to start walking the talk. We only have ONE life, and ONE body. If I don't take care of it now, where will I live? My body is my temple and I am ready to nourish it, love it, and respect it.
I know everyone has different opinions on New Year resolutions, but hey… if it works, do it! The New Year is a time to reflect on the past year and set goals for the future. It is not a time to beat yourself up over goals that were not met. Each day is a new opportunity to live the life you imagined.
You have the power to make changes each and every day. You have the power to change your thoughts from negative to positive. You have the power to take control of your health. The only question is… will you?

Do you set goals? Do you have a New Years resolution?

FullyRaw 21 Day Challenge!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
In a previous blog post I had announced that I was going to reset this New Year by going on Banana Island for 2 weeks. After hearing about FullyRaw Kristina's 21 Day Challenge I have decided to follow her guidance & reset with eating FullyRaw instead. The 21 Day Challenge is completely free and it starts January 5th and concludes January 25th. It takes 21 days to make a habit and I am ready to take the challenge!
Seriously, how vibrant & healthy does she look?! This photograph came from Kristina's About page! Be sure to check it out for more information on her amazing transition to living a FullyRaw lifestyle!
Kristina also has an amazing YouTube channel, filled with recipes and information on living a FullyRaw lifestyle! She has over 250k subscribers and her videos are so inspiring. Definitely worth a few minutes to check out her channel :)
You can sign up for the 21 Day Challenge here & receive a DAILY FullyRaw video to teach you everything Kristina knows (which is a lot.. she has been FullyRaw for over 7 years!), guidance, support, meal plans, and shopping lists!
I am excited to have some support while doing this challenge. Plus Kristina is so inspiring & motivating… it will make this challenge lots of fun :)

How are you planning to start out this New Year? Do you have a New Year's resolution?

Water Fluoridation {Infographic}

I'm completely disgusted that our tap water is fluorinated. The first line of this infographic is super powerful, as fluoride is the ONLY drug that is forced as mass medication of population… with no control of dosing. Scary right?
Which part of this infographic disturbs you the most?
{Thanks to Growing Up Naturally in Home Child Care for sharing this infographic, check out her blog for great information on living an organic, natural lifestyle}
water fluoridation infographic
Discover how fluoride in your drinking water can impair your health and damage the environment through our infographic "Water Fluoridation: 6 Facts You Need to Know." Visit our infographic page for the high-res version.

With more than 123 combined studies on humans & animals correlating fluoride to brain damage, why the heck is it still in our water?
Hopefully you aren't still buying the "fluoride prevents cavities" hoax. Just take a look at this article, Does Fluoride Really Right Cavities by Dr. Mercola. This is a must read article for those interested in learning the truth about water fluoridation.
I believe I was one of the 41% of American children whom have dental fluorosis caused by excess fluoride. You know what the dentist prescribed me? A fluoride paste to be used after brushing. More fluoride for dental fluorosis? Absurd. Good thing I opened my eyes sooner than later! I began using Earthpaste and have noticed that the white spots on my teeth have decreased immensely. Yay!
Another disturbing fact I would like to discuss is the fact that 99% of all fluoride added to water goes down the drain and into the environment! The two types of fluoride commonly added to drinking water (as described in this infographic) are waste products from wet scrubbing systems of the fertilizer industry and are classified as hazardous waste!
It puzzles me that this is added to our drinking water. It is time for us to stand up for our rights and get fluoride out of our tap water!
I have been wanting to get a water filtration system for some time now, and this infographic confirms my concerns for water fluoridation and makes me eager to get a water filtration system ASAP!

What concerns you the most about water fluoridation?

Where Does The Time Fly?

I can't believe the end of 2013 is right around the corner! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and before we know it we will be welcoming in the New Year. Oy vey, what a year this has been!
First off, Happy Holidays to all! I hope your day is wonderful and filled with family, love & gratitude. May this year bring you good health & much happiness.
Now before we go any further, I want to share with you an amazing deal at Tropical Traditions! You can get a FREE 32oz jar of Organic Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil with any purchase of $12.99 or higher! HURRY! This offer expires at midnight on 12/25!

{not my image, thank you Google}

Now, back to discussing how fast 2013 flew by. Did it feel that way to you? It seems like it was just the New Year! I began my health journey about a year ago, and honestly I am disappointed in myself. I did not give 2013 my all, I fell off the bandwagon more times than not. But you know what? Thinking about it won't change it, I need to make some serious changes in the coming year. I plan on indulging tomorrow and Christmas Day, in moderation of course. On Thursday I am starting a (hopefully) two week journey on Banana Island. If you haven't heard of Banana Island it's a simple cleanse where you just eat bananas & leafy greens. I think this is the best way for me to reset my palate and stop craving junk food. This will also give my digestion system some much needed rest.
This year I plan on recommitting myself to a vegan, plant based lifestyle. After Banana Island I also plan to eat highly raw, meaning the majority of my calories will come from fresh fruits & vegetables. I'm looking for optimal health. I want to feel my best and after month's of researching, I believe this lifestyle will work best for me.
Banana Island is going to be a "mind over matter" situation. I will prove to myself that I am stronger than my cravings and I am so excited to see how I will feel at the end of two weeks! I'll be blogging my way through it, so stay tuned!

Just because I didn't meet my health or fitness goals doesn't mean 2013 was a bust, it was actually quite enjoyable!
Some positive things that have happened this year:
I got engaged to the love of my life, Zac, on December 7, 2013
(no wedding planning yet, we're thinking the Summer of 2017)
I started this blog!
I followed my heart, withdrew from school, and am pursuing my dream
I had my first garden, let's just say it was a learning experience
I went on an amazing cruise with my family & fiance
I prioritized my life (hence starting Banana Island right after Christmas)
And many, many more..
I'm ready to work my butt off so I can look back next Christmas & be PROUD of myself. So I can look at how far I came & never look back. I am ready to impress myself ;)

Have you been to Banana Island? Would you want to go?
How are you bringing in the New Year?

{If you order by clicking on any of my links and have never ordered from Tropical Traditions in the past, you will receive a free book on Virgin Coconut Oil, and I will receive a discount coupon for referring you}

100% Pure Makeup Review

I'm so excited to share with you 100% Pure Makeup! It is made with all natural, organic & vegan ingredients. 100% Pure Makeup is colored with fruit and vegetable pigments instead of minerals or synthetic dyes!
100 Percent Pure
For this review I was provided Fruit Pigmented Lip Butter, Fruit Pigmented Mascara, and Fruit Pigmented Pearl Eye Shadow! I was extremely happy with all three products and honestly they are the only three products that I have been using since they arrived!
My samples arrived shortly before leaving for vacation and I was thrilled that I would be able to test out these products on my Caribbean kissed skin ;)

The lip butter, mascara, and eye shadow are literally all I need to feel naturally pretty! The above picture was taken after I applied all three products and before venturing out in San Juan! It's quick & easy to put on (I'm talking like 3 minutes!) and the eye shadow and mascara stay on for hours! The lip butter leaves a pigment on your lips, but just like any other lip butter, the moisturizing butters eventually soak into your lips. I don't wear makeup all that often, probably once or twice a week. Now that I have discovered 100% Pure Makeup I feel good about what I am putting on my skin and actually find myself wanting to put on makeup!
No chemicals, preservatives, artificial dyes, or toxins... just 100% Pure Makeup colored from fruit!

The Fruit Pigmented Lip Butter retails for $13 and is 100% natural, vegan, and gluten free. This lip butter is made with a moisturizing blend of avocado, shea, and cocoa butters that will leave your lips hydrated!
The Fruit Pigmented Pearl Eye Shadow retails for $15. This powdered shadow blends easily and produces a beautiful shimmer and glow to the eye. This eye shadow is 100% vegan, natural, and gluten free.
The Fruit Pigmented Mascara is easily my favorite mascara I have ever used. It retails for $18 and is available in four colors. I received the black color and was thrilled at how much this mascara lengthened my eyelashes! I will definitely be purchasing this once mine runs out! My prior mascara (no names) left my lashes clumpy and it was such a pain to take off. Even after using makeup remover, it would stay on for days. That is no longer a problem with 100% Pure mascara! It is colored with black tea, chocolate and berry pigments and is suitable for sensitive eyes. This mascara is 100% natural & vegan. This mascara really lengthens, separates and thickens lashes, plus it is water and smudge resistant! The gentle, natural formula does not contain any toxins that can get in to your eyes.
100% Pure Makeup products are made in the USA which is always a bonus!
You can read more on 100% Pure Makeup products & see their ingredient lists here!
To see the ingredient list for the above products, simply click on the link taking you to the product page. Scroll down and the ingredient list is front & center!

Now, you may be thinking "wow those are high prices for cosmetics" but you really do get what you pay for. When you buy cheap cosmetics, they are only cheap because they contain synthetic dyes, chemicals, preservatives, and a ton of ingredients that are not meant to be on your skin. When you choose 100% Pure Makeup, you are choosing to honor your body and treat it with only the best, natural ingredients!

Cup Cuff Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

"A Touch of Style"

Do you often find yourself at a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, ordering a hot drink and using a cardboard sleeve so your fingers won't get burnt? Just imagine how many cardboard sleeves you waste. Yikes. Cup Cuff is exactly what need!
The Cup Cuff is designed to reduce the amount of cardboard sleeves used by on-the-go coffee and tea drinkers. Cup Cuff was established in 2008 and has a strong commitment to make a difference in the environment by providing a sustainable way to cut back on the waste of countless cardboard sleeves. The collection is comprised by three beautiful designs that allow consumers to be both eco-friendly and stylish!
The Cup Cuff is available in three designs, The Mariner, The Che, and The Professor
{shown in that order}
I absolutely adore all three designs! My favorite would have to be The Mariner, which is fitting because I love the ocean & boats.
The Che design is so classy and I love the button! The Professor also has a cute button, which has "Cup Cuff" printed on it. I love the small details! I also love the plaid design of The Professor!
Seriously, how cute are these Cup Cuffs? They sure do beat a cardboard sleeve all day, every day! Plus, with three unique patterns there is surely a design that everyone will love!

Each Cup Cuff is currently made with 100% U.S. cotton and they will soon be shifting to organic materials and other renewable sources such as bamboo & hemp! This is an exciting change that reflects the company's commitment to sustainability and protecting Mother Earth.
Cup Cuff's line of products will diversify over time, as they explain that they will be "launching a Spring/Summer 2014 line that will have some changes to The Che, [and] two new designs with one of them being very feminine"
(Information from a letter that came with the products)

Each Cup Cuff retails for $9.95 & all three designs are so unique and stylish! I think this is a great investment towards "greening" your routine & being a conscious consumer!
Cup Cuff is based out of Vancouver, Canada and shipping to the United States was timely, I was impressed!

Cup Cuff recently had success with their Kickstarter campaign and they will begin implementing the Cup Cuff for a Tree Program. For every Cup Cuff sold they will have a tree purchased and donated to a tree planting company. How awesome is that?!

Connect with Cup Cuff on Facebook & Twitter & Instagram!

Now, for the giveaway! Isn't this what you have been waiting for?!
I will be giving away two Cup Cuffs, The Che & The Professor!

New Blog Design!

It's here! It's here! It's here! Can you tell how excited I am? I have been working with Jane from Poppiness Designs on my new website design and I am so pleased! Jane did a great job making my vision come to life.
I wanted the design to be earthy, grounded, and inspire others to live naturally. I couldn't be happier with the result!
Jane is timely, professional, and easy to talk to! When I say "timely" I mean really quick! The entire project was completed within one week!
She answered a bunch of my questions and I felt like she really cared about my design, and brand as a whole!
I am really glad I chose Jane to design my website. After looking at her portfolio, it was clear that she is very talented!
I never felt rushed and I knew that I could tell Jane if I did not like something. She did such a fantastic job… hitting the nail right on the head! I did not have many changes to make, which made it super easy!
Her prices are incredibly affordable, which is always a bonus as I am on a budget and love saving money! I would highly recommend Jane to any blogger, or business, looking to redesign their website!
I feel like now OrganicallYou has a brand and I couldn't be happier!
Jane also created a matching business card which really adds to my brand. I love the logo and feel like my site is so much more professional now!
I hope you enjoy the new design as well!

Truly Tomato! Review

The Way Nature Intended

Dei Fratelli's Truly Tomato! is the first chopped tomatoes grown & packaged in the United States and available in shelf stable, environmentally friendly cartons.
The cartons are completely recyclable, BPA free, and preserve the fresh flavors nature provides.
Truly Tomato! also offers tomato and veggie juice that are not from concentrate, just the way nature intended!
For this review I was provided Truly Tomato's finely chopped, petite cut, and rustic cut varieties. You can shop all their great products here!
I made a homemade tomato sauce with the finely chopped tomatoes, which is simmered with carrots, celery and onion, making it a perfect base for a sauce. I then added in the rustic cut tomatoes, a tbsp of garlic, italian seasoning, black pepper & Redmond Garlic Real Salt! I simmered the sauce for 30 minutes and served with whole wheat linguine. It was so simple & delicious!
What I especially love about Truly Tomato! is the fact that you can meet the farmers on their website! They also explain how their product goes from field to carton, which I find so interesting. I love when company's give you an inside look!

I feel good using Truly Tomato! products because they are filled with real, natural ingredients ~ nothing artificial! The seeds are nonGMO and the family farmers take pride in their natural farming techniques. The farms are in close proximity to Truly Tomato's facility, thus tomatoes are processed within hours of being freshly picked!

I also LOVE that the producers of the Dei Fratelli brand is the Hirzel Canning Company & Farms, a fourth generation, family owned and operated company located in Ohio! I love supporting small, family owned companies.

Truly Tomato! explains what is so special about their sustainable packaging…
Our carton allows us to use a more delicate process, thus preserving the natural, fresh-tasting flavor that nature provides. It also allows us all to live a little smarter through eco-friendly packaging.
Environmentally Friendly Packaging:
Comprised of 75% Paper Board - a 100% renewable resource
FSC certified — a global organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management
Provides our consumers with more opportunities to live consciously by reducing fossil fuels… and their own carbon footprint!

Truly Tomato! offers tomato products just the way nature intended!
I am impressed with their commitment to delivering natural, fresh tomatoes to customers in revolutionary ecofriendly packaging. I would highly recommend Truly Tomato! to any home chef looking to enhance their cooking. Truly Tomato makes it easy to prepare homemade sauces, soups, and so much more. They also have a bunch of yummy recipes that you can see here!

Dead Sea Facial Mud Mask Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Rivage Dead Sea Facial Mud Mask

This mud mask is all natural and never tested on animals. The healing properties of the Dead Sea helps sweep away impurities, excess oils, and toxins. Rivage Dead Sea Nourishing Facial Mud Mask is formulated with mud from the Dead Sea along with natural honey extract to provide skin with essential amino acids and increase skin regeneration, leaving skin fresh & purified with a healthy complexion!
(information came from a pamphlet from Rivage)

A 50g packet of the Dead Sea Mud Mask retails for $5.99
I used about half of the packet, thus I would say that a packet is ideal for two facials.
I'm not the best at taking selfies… especially when covered in mud… but hey, I tried :)
It's extremely easy to use, simply smooth the mud over a clean face in an even layer. Wait 20-30 minutes until the mud is completely dry. Exfoliate gently with finger tips & rinse with warm water.
It is suggested that the mud mask be applied weekly.
I love the pure, earthy scent of Rivage Dead Sea Facial Mud Mask. I also really like how it is made with Dead Sea mud & honey! I believe it is just as important to be conscious of what you put ON your body, as well as what you put IN your body. Using an all natural mud mask like Rivage is a great way to purify your skin.
Once the mask is dry & you wash your face with warm water, the mud mask is crumbly and exfoliates the skin while you wash. This is the first time I have experience such exfoliation with a mud mask and I was very impressed!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Alter Eco Review & Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Recipe

Alter Eco Foods
Nourishing Foodie, Farmer and Field

Alter Eco Foods offers delicious organic, fair trade chocolate, quinoa, rice, and sugar. They are a conscious, sustainable company and work closely with their farmers. Alter Eco has direct relationships with the farmers which create socially just and environmentally responsible products that are both nourishing to the farmer and foodie. You can learn more about their sustainable practices here!

For this review, I was provided Alter Eco's black quinoa, jasmine rice, and cane sugar...
I made yummy homemade chocolate peanut butter cups with the cane sugar & dark blackout chocolate. I simply melted the chocolate bar, added 1/4c Alter Eco cane sugar, 1/4c coconut oil, 1/2tsp vanilla, and one packet of ground chia seeds. You can use more or less of some ingredients, it is all about personal preference! Then, I used a muffin tin and lined each circle with the chocolate mixture. I layered the chocolate with natural peanut butter and topped them off with more of the chocolate. After an hour in the fridge these babies are good to go! Just be sure to store them in the refrigerator because the coconut oil will melt at a warm room temperature. They are a delicious, organic, homemade, fair trade treat that the entire family will enjoy.

I really enjoyed Alter Eco's cane sugar as it has vanilla and caramel notes which add a unique flavor. I have yet to create any recipes with the black quinoa or jasmine rice, but they will be coming so keep an eye out!

I also had the opportunity to review the dark mint, dark blackout, dark coconut toffee, dark quinoa chocolate bars along with the black truffle and velvet truffle...
Yeah, they were just as delicious as they sound. I would have to say my favorite flavor is the dark coconut toffee bar. It has a crunchy texture with smooth, powerful flavors. I also especially loved the dark quinoa chocolate bar as well, it reminded me of a healthier version of a "crunch" bar. The dark mint was also a favorite as it was not bitter, just sweet enough with a minty crunch! It tastes like a peppermint candy cane crunch with rich chocolate. Yum. Both the black truffle and velvet truffle were delicious and had a smooth center.

Alter Eco chocolate is an indulgence you can feel good about because they socially just & environmentally responsible company that is reliably delicious!

Alter Eco explains where their chocolate comes from, "plucked from organic trees in the Peruvian Amazon and Ecuadorian Coast, our cacao beans journey to the base of the Andes Mountains, where they are transformed into some of the world’s finest cocoa products. The final destination is Switzerland, where expert chocolatiers craft our unique and habit-forming bars and truffles. - See more at: http://www.alterecofoods.com/products/chocolate#sthash.5roqGmSn.dpuf"

Alter Eco is committed to providing the best organic foods while setting the bar in sustainable practices and becoming a carbon positive business. I highly recommend Alter Eco as they are an incredible business leading the way to a more sustainable, organic future!

I was provided Alter Eco product for review purposes, all opinions are 100% my own!
