Beauty Routine with Salba Smart ~ Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

Many of the foods we consume affect the quality of our hair and skin – from water to omega-3s to antioxidants. But if beauty is more than skin deep, why do we turn to face creams rather than whole foods for solutions? Shouldn’t we be working on beauty from the inside out?

Chia seeds are popping up in face creams and oils everywhere, but did you know that just eating 1 tablespoon of Salba Chia whole seeds every day can give your body more essential nutrients, like omega-3s (ALA) to keep your skin glowing and hair silky, as well as protecting your brain, heart and digestive health? Chia has come a long way from its sprouted head days and there are very good reasons to add this mighty whole food to everyday beauty regimens!

So why Salba chia? There are many strains of chia, but Salba chia is the only registered variety and has the highest nutritional consistency, which means you pay less for better overall health than expensive oils and creams.

Reasons to eat Salba chia:
·         Every 15g serving of Salba provides 800% more Omega-3s (ALA) than salmon (EPA/DHA) – perfect for combating dry skin!
·         Each serving contains 5.1g of dietary fiber to support healthy digestion and curb appetite.
·         Contains 30% more antioxidants than blueberries (based on ORAC scores), a natural way to maintain youthful, radiant skin.
·         It’s easy! Sprinkle or mix into smoothies, salads, pudding or juice.

Time to step up your beauty routine! And it can be as easy as eating or drinking!

Salba Chia Better Beauty Smoothie
All the best ingredients to keep your hair strong and shiny, skin glowing, and brain powered!
·         2 cups raw almond milk
·         2 T. Salba chia seeds
·         1 ripe banana
·         5 strawberries, cut
·         ½ cup blueberries
·         ½ avocado, peeled & pitted
Blend together until smooth consistency; add ice cubes if desired.

Salba Chia Exfoliator
Tiny chia seeds can act as a gentle and natural exfoliator when combined with coconut oil and lemon juice:
·         Mix ½ cup coconut oil and 1 T. lemon juice with 2 T. Salba chia seeds.
·         Gently wet your face with warm water and apply the chia exfoliating scrub to your skin. Let it set for 2 minutes, during which it should begin to form a gel.
·         Remove the chia scrub with a wet washcloth and rinse your face with cool water when finished.

I absolutely love the Salba Chia Exfoliator! I used it on my entire body and it is simply divine. It leaves my skin extremely soft and smelling fresh!
I let the exfoliator set for about 5 minutes before applying to my face. That way, the chia seeds can start to absorb the coconut oil and lemon juice creating a gel. My sisters also enjoy this refreshing scrub!
I put the leftovers in the refrigerator and now have an amazing exfoliator for anytime! Now that's a win, win :)

JIVA Organics Kalonji Seeds Review

JIVA Organic Kalonji Seeds (aka Nigella Sativa) retails at $6.95 for 7-oz.

Nigella sativa seed has many many names around the world. Sometimes referred to as Black cumin, Fennel Flower, Nutmeg Flower, blackseed, black caraway, black onion seed, or even roman corriander. In English-speaking countries with large immigrant populations, it is also variously known as kalonji, kezah Hebrew קצח), chernushka (Russian), çörek otu (Turkish), habbat albarakah.

Jiva Organics offers a Certified USDA Organic, high quality and high purity Kalonji Black Seed grown in organic fields in India

There are multiple ways to eat black seeds -
1) Black Seed Tea is very common in Egypt. Just boil the black seed and water, Keep it for 10 minutes, Strain and drink.
2) Black Seed bread is very common in Africa. Add 2 Tbsp of black seed in the dough and bake the bread.
3) Black seeds are very easy to sprout and germinate. Throw the seeds in soil. Water for few days and you will see beautiful shoots that will produce purple flowers. Micro greens can be added to salad.
4) Roast the Black seeds in a pan and munch them. Seeds are aromatic with slightly peppery taste.
5) Powder the black seeds in a spice blender and eat them with honey
6) Sprinkle the Black Seeds in your yogurt bowl.
7) Use them in curry with other spices

The word "Jiva" means life. At Jiva Organics, we are small family business driven by care and respect for life - be it people or the environment around us. As a result, we source products that are completely natural, certified organic and grown with the underlying philosophy that promotes sustainability of Mother Earth for the present and future generations. Organic farms we work with are untouched by modern toxic inputs to produce pure and natural spices and grains of the highest quality, that result in delicious, healthy meals for you and your family . It's a simple choice that makes a big difference.

I honestly do not have any experience with Kalonji Seeds but I have heard of their amazing healing abilities and was eager to try them out. They have a mild, peppery taste and can easily be added to meals.
I did notice that on the Amazon reviews, two different people reported that these seeds are regular cumin being sold as Kalonji. Since I do not have experience with either Kalonji Seeds or cumin, I can't really say what I think it truly is. This makes me frustrated and confused. I would not recommend JIVA Organics at this time because I am unsure of the quality.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I really enjoyed both of these flavors, however my favorite would have to be the South West. I love the (mild) zesty & south west kick it adds!

The Garden Herb burger's ingredients are extremely simple: organic cooked brown rice, organic ground raw sunflower seeds, organic carrots, organic spices, sea salt.

South West ingredients: organic ground raw sunflower seeds, organic cooked brown rice, organic carrots, organic cooked black beans, organic paprika, organic cumin, organic onion, organic garlic, organic green pepper, sea salt, organic cilantro, organic jalapeno pepper.

My favorite way to dress the veggie burgers is with avocado, tomato and Salba Smart chia seeds with a side of mustard! YUM!

Summertime BBQ with Salba Smart ~ Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

It's that time for another Salba Smart chia giveaway! This months theme is "good-for-you grilling" & I am super excited to share with you some ideas on using Salba Smart chia seeds in your summertime BBQ recipes!
Nothing says summer like grilling! But have you ever tried including chia seeds with your grilling recipes? Grilling is already one of the healthiest ways to cook (as long as you’re careful with marinades!) and by seasoning meats and vegetables with herbs like basil, oregano and thyme, and adding Salba chia seeds, you can give your favorite recipes a boost of nutrition. With these easy and fun recipes, anyone can grill a delicious, healthy meal!
Baby Kale Salad with Strawberries and Salba Chia Seed Dressing
5 oz baby kale (or other lettuce)
2 cups sliced strawberries
Any additions you would like (almonds, cheese, etc.)

For the dressing:
1/2 T Salba chia seeds
1 T red wine vinegar
1 T apple cider vinegar
1 T olive oil
1 ½ T honey (or agave)
Bonus! Place Salba Chia seeds on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 1 hour. The seeds will become crunchy and add texture to salads just like sesame seeds!

Salba Chia Chicken Strips
5 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup plain yogurt
1 T grainy mustard
2 cups panko bread crumbs
¼ cup Salba chia seeds
2 tsp dried sage
2 tsp kosher salt
Fresh ground pepper
  1. Rinse the chicken under cold water and pat dry. Slice each breast into strips and set aside.
  2. Combine the yogurt and mustard in a bowl; add the chicken and allow it to marinade for a minimum of 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine the panko, chia, sage, salt and several grinds of pepper in a medium bowl and stir well.
  4. Dredge the chicken into the panko mixture and coat all sides well. Place on the baking sheet and repeat with the remaining chicken. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until cooked through and panko turn golden. Serve warm.

Salba Chia Fruit Salad
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup orange juice
 2 T lemon juice
 4 T Salba chia seeds
 1/4 tsp ground ginger
 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
 5 cups cubed cantaloupe
 1 cup fresh blueberries
 2 large firm bananas, sliced
2 medium nectarines, peeled and sliced
  2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  2 cups halved seedless grapes
Directions: In a small bowl, combine the first five ingredients; mix well. In a large bowl, combine the fruit. Add dressing and toss to coat. Serve with a slotted spoon.
Mmm. How good do those sound?! Be sure to follow me on Instagram as I will be posting my favorite BBQ chia-infused recipes there!

I made a delicious balsamic-chia dressing! It's simply balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and herbs mixed with 2tbsp Salba Smart chia seeds. It was divine on top of a fresh salad!

I also added chia seeds on top of my South West Sunshine Burger, complete with avocado and tomato! YUM!

Other ideas for infusing chia seeds into your summertime grilling include adding chia seeds to your water (try adding fresh fruit & mint as well, so good!), cocktails, marinades, salad dressings, BBQ sauce, ketchup, and sprinkling them on top of salads and side dishes!
How will you use Salba Smart chia seeds while grilling?!
