A Smarter Super Bowl ~ Giveaway {CLOSED}

As I mentioned in a previous Friday Favorites post, I have become a Salba Smart chia ambassador! Which is awesome for both of us because that means every month I will have a new giveaway for you featuring Salba Smart's products! I had the opportunity to review their products in the past and I instantly fell in love!

Salba chia seeds are bursting with nutrition, as you can see in this infographic:

Salba chia seeds are superior to generic chia seeds for multiple reasons. They are higher in omega 3's and protein, have nutritional consistency, and are grown using strict growing conditions. You can read more about the comparison here!

As many of you know, this weekend is the Super Bowl, which usually includes lots of food, friends and alcohol. You can "healthify" your your game day treats using Salba Smart's chia seeds. Salba Smart came up with some delicious recipes that you should definitely try:

  • Chia-mole – a classic guacamole enhanced with Salba Chia seeds:
    • 2 ripe avocados, halved, pitted, and peeled
    • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
    • 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped (1/2 cup)
    • 2 plum tomatoes, seeded and finely chopped (1/3 cup)
    • 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
    • 1/8 teaspoon coarse salt
    • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
    • 2 tablespoons of Salba Chia Whole Seeds
    • Serve with Salba Chia Organic Tortilla Chips or fresh cut veggies
  • Strawberry Salba-ritas – Yes, you read it right! Why not make a margarita a little healthier?!?
    • 2 oz water
    • 1 tsp Salba Chia Seeds (let chia seeds soak for about 10 min. in the water)
    • 3 oz tequila
    • 1 oz triple sec
    • 1½  oz freshly-squeezed lime juice
    • 6-7 whole, frozen strawberries (blended)
    • 1 Tbsp palm sugar (also called coconut sugar) & 1 Tbsp cane sugar
    • Ice
  • Light Buffalo Chicken Dip – Just the right amount of naughty & nice.
    • 4 oz reduced fat cream cheese, softened
    • 1 cup fat free sour cream
    • 1/2 cup Franks hot sauce (or whatever hot sauce you like)
    • 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
    • 1 tsp white wine vinegar
    • 2 Tbsp Salba Chia Whole Seeds
    • 2 cups (14 oz  raw) cooked shredded chicken
I created game day avocado salsa. Yum!
{two tomatoes, 1/2 onion, 1tbsp or 1 clove garlic, 1 lime juice, 2tbsp Salba chia whole seeds, 1 avocado, and a sprinkle of Real Salt & pepper}
This avo-salsa is really, really good. I hope it's a hit on game day! I will be serving them with Salba chia tortilla chips.

Salba Smart has chia tortilla chips (yellow & blue corn) and chia salsa which are absolutely delicious and are sure to please a hungry crowd!

I love how Salba chia is white, it makes it easy to sneak them into dishes without being noticed!

Friday Favorites #4

Well… it's Friday again which means time for another Friday Favorites post! I'm linking up with Clare's Five Things Friday link up!

Here are five things I've been loving this week:
1. Crunchy veggie and hummus wraps! These babies are so easy and delicious. I just spread hummus on a whole wheat wrap {you can also use collard greens or another large green leaf} and then put on spinach, red cabbage, carrots, cucumber, green pepper & roll it up. It's incredibly satisfying and you may find yourself craving them daily… just a warning ;)

2. I've been switching up my smoothie routine with the occasional fresh juice. One of my favorites is pineapple, orange, and spinach. The pineapple wasn't quite ripe yesterday so I opted for orange and spinach, it was just as yummy as I thought I'd be :) Nothing like fresh squeezed OJ, and I LOVE that you can't taste the spinach!
I'm using my fabulous Glass Dharma drinking straw!
These pictures have also been posted on my Instagram

3. I have become very confident in my decision to drop out of school to work full time. I hope to be serving in the next few months which will be exciting as I will be able to pay of my (small) student loan & save for the future. It can be hard listening to other people's opinions on my decision, especially those whom do not know me. However, at the end of the day I know this is what is best for me.
I believe that everyone should follow their heart. The feeling I have from making this decision is liberating and exciting. It's not the end of my education, it's actually just the beginning. I'm excited to explore online schooling options and pursue my dreams of owning my own business.
We only have one life. Dare to dream, plan and act. It's your life and you are the creator of your journey. What will you create for yourself?

4. That last one got a little deeper than I had anticipated. I guess that's what happens when you make big decisions, they come with emotions. Anyways, I need to get in the swing of making a blogging schedule and sticking to a plan. I think it will make things a lot easier. Bloggers, do you use blogging schedules? Do they help?

5. My goal for this coming week is to get in a routine and incorporate zumba into my everyday fitness plan. I want to wake up with yoga and do zumba in after that. I'm thinking making a fitness calendar may help me plan my days better. Can you tell I love to plan? Oh, and that running goal?! It's still on my mind, I just need to get my butt outside and get some miles in. I'm going to start tracking my miles with Daily Mile, connect with me!

Secrets to a Pain Free Life ~ Book Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
I had the opportunity to review Noxicare {an all natural pain relieving cream} a few month's ago and instantly fell in love. So when the creator of Noxicare, Dr. Reza Ghorbani, published a book called, "Secrets to a Pain Free Life" I was more than happy to review it. Dr. Ghorbani's book "offers straightforward, useful advice for patients and clinicians that can help them navigate through baffling, or in some cases, deceptive claims about pain relief"
{from the back of the book}

This book retails for $24.75 and is available from Amazon.
I do not suffer from any pain, however both my mom and dad suffer from chronic conditions. I got this book with them in mind and I believe many of Dr. Ghorbani's remedies will be very, very useful to them.

Table of Contents:
Chapter 1: What is Pain
Chapter 2: Pain in Everyday Life
Chapter 3: Pain Management Over Time
Chapter 4: Myths & Misconceptions about Pain
Chapter 5: Lifestyle & Pain
Chapter 6: Medicine, Herbal Remedies, and Alternative Therapies
Chapter 7: Turmeric
Chapter 8: Rosemary
Chapter 9: Boswellia
Chapter 10: Ginger
Chapter 11: Alpha Lipoic Acids
Chapter 12: Holy Basil
Chapter 13: Willow Bark
Chapter 14: When to Seek Medical Advice

The book is very well organized and contains many colorful pictures and a few funny cartoons. The paragraphs are small, making it very easy to read. It also contains bullets, many recipes, and green boxes which explain some of the causes of pain. "Secrets to a Pain Free Life" also discusses the history of different herbs, how to use them, and how they treat pain. Dr. Ghorbani gives the reader all the information they need to know so they can better handle their pain.

Dr. Ghorbani's writing style is similar to telling a story which makes it a pleasure to read. He includes personal stories and explains how drugs get to the market. The lobbying, conflict of interest, and recalling of medications all create question in the reliability of pharmaceutical companies & the FDA.

I am so excited for my parents to start using some of the remedies described in "Secrets to a Pain Free Life" I highly recommend this book for those suffering from pain or chronic illnesses. It is also a great resource for those whom want to take a natural approach to healthcare. Even those who do not have pain can benefit from this knowledge as these remedies can be extremely useful in treating the common cold, flu, improving circulation, digestion, and assisting with managing cramps from exercise or menstrual pain.

Friday Favorites #3

Hey there friends! It's time for another Friday Favorites post. I don't have any fun pictures to share, I was a bad blogger this week and totally forgot to snap pictures of my meals. So much for documenting my FullyRaw challenge!
I'm linking up with Clare at Fitting It All In's Friday Five link up!

1. I got approved to be a Salba Smart chia ambassador! Which means I will be hosting monthly giveaways featuring Salba Smart's products! WOOHOO! I'm so excited! Watch out for a post coming soon on making your Super Bowl snacks smarter!

2. I haven't been 100% on eating FullyRaw, but I have been including much more raw foods in my diet. I'd say I'm eating anywhere between 80-90% raw foods each day. YAY for progress!

3. Juicing. Need I say more? I have been a bit obsessed lately. If you don't already, follow me on Instagram where I show off some of my creations!

4. I'm loving my job. It's such a relief to actually look forward to what I do each day. I no longer feel stressed or down, I'm feeling thankful that I followed my heart. I have decided that in a few years I will become a raw food chef. I love cooking and I think that will be an awesome way to combine my passion for health & food as medicine.

5. This week has not been the best in the fitness category, but I did practice yoga twice & go for a walk. A step in the right direction I guess. That won't get me down, though. After I finish this post I plan on going for a run and practice some yoga. I need to push myself to run daily as I really want to run my first 5K this spring!

Did you meet your goals this week? How are your New Year resolutions going?

Raw Revolution Review

A few weeks ago I was sent some Raw Revolution Organic Bars to try out. I was sent the 10 flavor variety pack which retails for $16.99 and includes one bar of each of the 10 flavors. You can see the list of ingredients & nutritional information for each of the 10 flavors here!
There are so many delicious varieties, there is surely one to please every palate!
Chocolate Coconut Bliss
Apple Cinnamon
Golden Cashew
Chocolate Raspberry Truffle
Cherry Chocolate Chunk
Spirulina Dream
Coconut Delight
Almond Butter Cup
Chocolate Crave
Heavenly Hazelnut Chocolate

If you have read my blog before you know that I am a total chocoholic, so naturally my favorite flavors were those that included chocolate. My absolutely favorite would have to be the chocolate coconut bliss, followed closely by the chocolate raspberry truffle, chocolate cherry chunk, chocolate crave, and heavenly hazelnut chocolate. I really can't put them in any particular order because they were all that good. They are a great alternative to a chocolate bar and a sweet treat that you can enjoy completely guilt free!

I especially love these bars for on the go, they are great while hiking, pre/post workout, traveling and working! They have a chewy texture and are the perfect size. Each Raw Revolution flavor is made with very simple ingredients, which is super important to me! Plus, they are great for those on a vegan, nonGMO/organic, gluten free or kosher diet!
Raw Revolution Bars are certified organic, nonGMO, made with fruit & nuts, raw, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, made without refined sugars, contains sprouted flax seeds, cholesterol free, preservative free, kosher, no artificial ingredients, contains omega 3 & 6 and are low in sodium!

The story of Raw Revolution is an amazing one. Alice, a registered nurse and natural food chef, was looking for something she could feed her kids that was both healthy and tasted good. Alice then started feeding her snacks to friends and family and went on to sell small batches to local stores near her home. The first bars sold within days and Alice knew she was onto something. Ten years later, Alice and her husband are producing millions of Raw Revolution bars each year. The factory is family owned right outside of New York City! I love supporting small, family owned companies! You can read more about their story here.

Raw Revolution describes what makes their company so special... their commitment to using only organic ingredients with sprouted superfoods in each bit, creating nutrient dense bars that are always vegan with minimal processing meaning less heating and cooling and a lower carbon footprint from crop to table. You can read more here!

You can find Raw Revolution Bars in many grocery stores and on their website:

Cheribundi Smoothie Packet Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I reviewed Cheribundi's Refresh line a couple months ago and when I found out they created tart cherry smoothie packets I was so excited! Cheribundi has built their entire company around the amazing cherry as it is packed with phytonutrients, is the ultimate antioxidant, supports restful sleep, and helps promote healthy inflammation response. They call themselves "The Cherry People" ~ and for good reason! You can learn more about their vision here and get to know the farmers and orchards here!
The smoothie packs are available in two flavors, tart cherry and tart cherry mango.
The tart cherry smoothie pack contains more than 20 cherries per package and delivers as much phytonutrients and electrolytes as proprietary juicing process allows!
The tart cherry mango smoothie pack combines the delicious tart cherries with fresh mangos. Perfect for adding flavor to any smoothie!
Plus the smoothie packs are certified organic! Each package comes with 4 individual smoothie packs. The tart cherry smoothie packs are 50 calories each while the tart cherry mango smoothie packs are 60 calories each. You can see the full nutritional facts in the above photograph!
I made a delicious smoothie using the tart cherry pack, organic tropical frozen fruit blend (mango, pineapple, strawberries), organic spinach, chia & hemp seeds & water! I topped them with some blackberries for some added flavor. They were so delicious! My mom & I both enjoyed them immensely.
The Cheribundi smoothie packets are pureed fruit and are kept in the freezer. It is super easy to add it to any smoothie, just open the packet & squeeze it out!
I would definitely recommend Cheribundi smoothie packs to anyone whom loves smoothies! They are the perfect addition to your smoothie and contain many benefits! Cheers to good health!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Friday Favorites #2

 I can't believe it's already Friday! This week flew by… I started my new job (LOVE IT!) and have been getting in the swing of things. Today I'm linking up my Friday Favorites post with Fitting It All In's five things Friday link up

1. Since I started my new job and we are required to sample the food, I did not get to eat 100% raw the past week. I feel good, though, because I have included much more fruits & veggies into my diet. I feel so energized once I fuel up with carbs, it's amazing! I'm excited to continue this journey :)
Here is one of my new favorite juices!!! It's about 8 oranges & 1 pomegranate juiced. YUM!

2. I love creating new recipes and yesterday I made a delicious apple kiwi chia juice! It is absolutely delicious, although it might look a bit scary. It's so sweet and the chia seeds create a lovely jellied texture
You could also juice some kale or spinach to get in a serving of leafy greens! This juice is so sweet, I'm sure that the spinach would be perfect to balance it out.
For this particular juice, I juiced about 5 apples & 3 kiwis, and added in 2tbsp of chia seeds mixed with 1/4 cup warm water! Add in a few ice cups if your produce is warm!

3. I'm loving myself some hot Yogi tea. I mean, who doesn't love to warm up with a good cup of tea?! It's essential, especially in this cold New England winter.

4. Visualization. Usually in the wintertime I get a bit depressed, I think it's contributed to the lack of sunshine and vitamin D. I'm always craving sunshine in the winter. I hate the cold and do not enjoy any winter sports. All I want is to go outside and relax at the beach. With that being said, I am visualizing my life in a few years. I am planning and seeing myself living the life I dream of. It's keeping me sane, really :)
One day, this will be my winter reality. And I cannot wait.

5. Pomegranates. I love these little gems! They are so delicious… mmm! I found out an easy way to get the seeds out quickly & efficiently. I'm not sure if everyone is aware of this trick, so I thought I'd share!
Cut off both sides of the pomegranate then cut through the flesh about two inches apart, fill a bowl up with cold water, and pull pomegranate apart under water. Then, simply use your fingers to get out all the pomegranate seeds & throw away the floating membrane. Drain & enjoy!
Some of my favorite ways to enjoy pomegranates are in smoothies, juiced, on coconut yogurt, in a fruit salad or regular salad! There are endless possibilities!

This hasn't been the most exciting week, but I am very happy to be including more raw fruits & veggies into my everyday lifestyle. It feels awesome to be caring for myself, from the inside out!

What were some of your favorites this week? Is it cold where you are? Do you enjoy the cold weather?!

FullyRaw Challenge {Day 1 & 2}

So the first two days of the FullyRaw Challenge were definitely not perfect, but I am not giving up! I definitely added a lot more fruits & veggies to my diet, but I still fell off the bandwagon a few times. That's okay though because I'm ready to commit to being FullyRaw for the next 19 days :)

Day one included lots of freshly squeezed orange juice! I used my old fashion citrus juicer and it took a bit of time. Today I plan on peeling the oranges & running them through my juicer.
{using my GlassDharma straw}

{using my Cuppow lid}

I also ate a few bananas and a delicious mango berry smoothie for dinner!
{Strawberry Mango smoothie: spinach, frozen mango chunks & frozen strawberries, banana, chia & hemp seeds, water}

Day two included more smoothies…
I know not the most exciting stuff, but smoothies are oh so yummy!

 {Very Berry smoothie: spinach, organic berry mix (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries), chia & hemp seeds, banana, water}

{Strawberry Mango smoothie: spinach, frozen mango chunks & frozen strawberries, banana, chia & hemp seeds, water}
My smoothies always look different. As you can see this smoothie & other strawberry mango smoothie have the same ingredients, but are completely different looking! It just depends on how much fruit you put in. More mangos = orange. More berries = red.

Simply add ingredients to your blender (I use the Ninja) with a generous amount of water. Blend. Add more ingredients if consistency is not what you desire!
Tip: are your bananas ripe & your not sure if you will eat them all? Peel & freeze them for easy smoothie prep!

This is obviously not all I ate throughout these two days, just an overview :)
Are you participating in the FullyRaw challenge? Are you trying to include more fruits & veggies in your diet?

Friday Favorites #1

Hey there & Happy Friday! This week flew by! We got about 6 inches of snow last night thus my fiance is off of work and my siblings had no school. Snow days used to be a lot more fun as a child. I don't personally enjoy playing in the freezing cold snow but in the past I remember staying out there for hours. Oh the joys of childhood!

As I was thinking of ways to improve my blog this New Year and I decided that having a weekly Friday Favorites post might be a fun way to share more of my personal life with you all! I plan on Friday Favorites covering some of my favorite things that week, new recipes, goals, etc.

Some things I am loving…
Caribbean inspired smoothies, YUM! This New England weather won't get me down! Yesterday I enjoyed a delicious tropical green smoothie while waiting for my Mom at the doctors! I love using my Glass Dharma straw, it's fantastic even on the go!

 You can shop their reusable, sustainable glass straws here:
Glass Dharma Simple Elegance 12mm 10 Inch Glass Straw

Speaking of Glass Dharma, today is National Drinking Straw Day! I put together this #PicStitch for Instagram, can you tell I'm in love with their straws?!
Be sure to check out Glass Dharma's Facebook page today as they will be giving out a few $10 gift codes if you go show their page some love & discuss the history of straws with them!

I've also been preparing for the FullyRaw Challenge! FullyRaw Kristina's Instagram page is filled with mouth watering inspiration… this is one of my favorites!

We have bought lots of fruit & leafy greens so we are ready to go! I'm always so proud of my mom when she gets home from shopping and I found that she bought mostly organic produce. My mom is very frugal and if you told her to buy organic a couple years ago she would have laughed! She has been extremely supportive throughout my journey to wellness and is always eager to learn. I love her so much! My fiance, mom, and sister plan to join me on the challenge! I'm excited! Will you be joining in?!

I love surprises...October was Fair Trade Month and I won one of the #BeFair Twitter parties. I ALMOST forgot all about my prize, but yesterday I got a fun little package from Green Mountain Coffee! I had no idea what I won and I was completely amazed when I turned around this awesome mug to find my winning tweet! I'm in LOVE! How awesome is this?!

On another positive note, our DVD player is working again and I cannot wait to get back into the routine of Zumba daily! There is just something about that latin music and dancing that has me hooked. I definitely prefer doing the at home DVDs instead of a class, though. I'm not the best dancer, I just pretend to be ;)

Oh… how did I almost forget?! I got a job as a hostess! Here's to making money and planning my dreams! I plan on utilizing some blog schedule printables that I found at More From Your Blog! Organization just makes me feel better!

That concludes the first week of Friday Favorites! I'm so excited to make 2014 the best year yet!

How was your week? Did you have any favorites?

WooBamboo! Toothbrush Review

"We don't just make eco-friendly products. We help make eco-friendly people"

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I was so excited when I was given an opportunity to review WooBamboo toothbrushes!
Why Bamboo? Well, the answer is simple, really! Every year billions of people brush their teeth with conventional plastic toothbrushes that end up in landfills and contribute to a massive amount of unnecessary waste.

WooBamboo describes why you should choose bamboo toothbrushes here!

WooBamboo is uses Moso bamboo that is grown naturally, without chemicals or pesticides of any kind
Sustainably harvested & panda friendly (pandas do not eat Moso bamboo)
Biodegradable handles! That way, they won’t last forever in a landfill like every other non bamboo toothbrush! You can recycle the bristles, then throw the handle into your compost pile, where it will decompose naturally!
Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial (you won't need to worry about bacteria forming on the WooBamboo handle)
Packaged in recycled materials
Stylish & Unique
Customizable!

You can shop WooBamboo here! They offer slim handles in medium, soft, and super soft. WooBamboo also offers standard handles in medium, soft, and super soft.
You may buy individual toothbrushes retailing at $4.95/each or save when you buy a 4 pack for $19.95 or a box of 25 for $99.95!
I think that is an extremely reasonably price for a sustainable product that makes such a positive impact on the environment. Imagine how many plastic toothbrushes your family can save from ending up in landfills, simply by switching to WooBamboo?!

I was thrilled when I got two WooBamboo toothbrushes and Zac was quick to take advantage of the extra one! I scored the standard handle and he got the slim handle. Both of our bristles were soft. I personally prefer the standard handle because of the size. Both the handle and bristles were larger on the standard model (you can compare the two sizes in the above photograph)

Here is an up close picture of my standard handle WooBamboo toothbrush:
Zac & I agreed that WooBamboo is the only toothbrushes we will be purchasing from now on! I love that it is a daily reminder of a positive, green change I have made in my hygiene/beauty routine! And they are so unique, we feel quite stylish ;)

I really love the little note that came with the package, "Thank you so much for ordering an eco-friendly toothbrush. May it serve as a daily reminder that you have made a small step in the right direction, and that you have the power to make more!"

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
